With its distinctive characteristics and unique features, this orchid variety is a must-have for any discerning collector or enthusiast. Native Habitat: Cattleya eldorado thrives on tall trees in the Amazon basin, particularly in the vicinity of small rivers and open vegetation near sandy soil patches. Its medium, compact structure is supported by smooth, cylindrical pseudobulbs that bear a single leathery leaf with a textured surface. Size and Appearance: The pseudobulbs of Cattleya eldorado reach a height of 3 to 5 inches, complemented by leaves that span 4 to 6 inches. Despite its compact nature, a mature plant can flourish elegantly in a 4-inch (10 cm) pot, making it an ideal addition to your collection. Floral Elegance: Boasting a flower size of 5 inches (17.5 cm), the Cattleya eldorado var. semi alba blooms in a captivating light to medium pink hue. The presence of a darker lavender splotch on the lip adds a touch of sophistication, while the golden yellow throat enhances its allure. Fragrance enthusiasts will delight in its distinct and pleasing aroma. With some variability in color, from very pale pink to lavender, each bloom is a unique masterpiece. The short flower spike typically bears between one and three flowers, making each bloom a precious moment. Bloom Season: Enjoy the beauty of Cattleya eldorado in the summer, although the exact bloom time can vary due to the species' response to the timing of rainfall in its natural habitat. Cultivation Tips: For optimal growth, provide a warm to hot environment, with night temperatures ranging from 68 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. This orchid appreciates a pronounced winter rest period with minimal watering when dormant. Growth initiates in late winter or early spring, with buds forming in new sheaths during the summer. After flowering, roots develop on the base of the new pseudobulb. Ensure ample light and humidity throughout the year, and consider repotting when new roots emerge.
