Cattleya Alliance: Blc. Chialin Ruby 'Red Dragon'

The Blc. Chialin Ruby 'Red Dragon' orchid boasts magnificent, eye-catching 5-6 inch large, round, vibrant red flowers with a ruffled lip, adorning compact, stocky, and robust plants. This stunning orchid is a cross of Rlc. Shinfong Lucky x Rlc. Chuan Tung Pride and is known for its amazingly strong, sweet fragrance. It can bloom twice a year—during spring and fall, with the best flower quality seen in the fall. The mericlone name 'Red Dragon' was chosen to symbolize the plant's first bloom, which occurs around the Chinese Lunar New Year, an auspicious time celebrated with the color red for joy and the dragon for strength and vigor. Its compact growth habit and striking flower size and color make this orchid extremely desirable. Own this award-quality Blc. Chialin Ruby 'Red Dragon' and be the envy of all your friends! Cultivating Tips: Light: Provide bright, indirect light. Morning sun and filtered afternoon light are ideal. Avoid direct midday sun to prevent leaf burn. Temperature: Maintain daytime temperatures between 70-85°F (21-29°C). Night temperatures should range from 55-65°F (13-18°C). Humidity: Keep humidity levels between 50-70%. Use a humidity tray or room humidifier if needed. Watering: Water thoroughly when the potting mix is dry to the touch, usually once a week. Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot. Fertilizing: Use a balanced orchid fertilizer (20-20-20) at half strength every two weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in the fall and winter to once a month. Potting: Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant outgrows its pot, preferably in spring after blooming. Use a well-draining orchid mix, such as a combination of bark, perlite, and charcoal. Air Circulation: Ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent fungal and bacterial diseases. Use a small fan if growing indoors. Blooming: Encourage blooming by providing a slight drop in temperature at night and reducing watering frequency in the fall. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage new growth and blooms.
