Catch-13, Peter Max

This vibrant mini poster from Peter Max's celebrated Poster Book captures the artist at the height of his pop culture dominance. Created as promotional art for New York public television station Channel 13 WNDT, 'Catch 13' showcases Max's signature graphic vocabulary: bold primary colors, dynamic perspective, and whimsical figurative elements. The composition creates visual drama through extreme foreshortening, with the title appearing to plummet from infinity toward the viewer. A characteristic Max figure, rendered in his distinctive flat color style with orange dress, green legs, and pink hair accent, races across the lower portion of the frame. The concentric borders in hot pink, yellow, and cyan create a vibrant frame reminiscent of a television screen. A standout piece from the early 1970s that bridges commercial art and fine art sensibilities, this work demonstrates why Peter Max became one of the most recognizable visual voices of his generation.
