Cast Iron Meets Peacock

There is a lot to love about this shawl! Right off the bat, the eye is drawn to the striking geometric shapes and subtle contrast of colors along the generous border. I opted to use a muted palette to play against the strong underlying pattern believing that the juxtaposition would enhance the underlying beauty of the piece. The main color of the shawl - Cast Iron - is a moody gray which flits between what I think of as my grandfather's blackest skillet to stormy gray. I paired this shade with Peacock, an iridescent green that in certain light, tiptoes to the edge of being blue.  Colorplay figured into the rest of the piece as the three simple stripes interspersed in the Cast Iron each feature a slightly different shade of green. And the braid along the edge brings a fourth verdant hue into the equation.   The shape of the shawl is also very special. This is my first time making this shape, which deviates from your typical triangle with a bit of extra knitting at the nape. I may be ruined for typical triangle forevermore because of the sheer practicality of this structure. No matter how you choose to wear this piece - draped softly over both shoulders, wrapped twice like a bandana or subtly swathed over one shoulder - that extra bit of fabric will feel decadent, providing that perfect amount of additional coverage to keep you warm. I just love it when pretty meets practical!  Lastly, the texture of this wrap is wonderful. The heart of the wrap is comprised knits and purls that make a woven surface with a delightful drape. The piece lands on your shoulder with a hug and stays there. But then that border... there's magic to be had here with this smoother surface made of a mosaic knitting. This technique yields a denser fabric which allows the pattern and color to shine.    FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Wingspan: 62“ / 157 cm Center Depth: 26“ / 66 cm   YARN I love yarns with a pedigree. The main color, Cast Iron, is a sproingy wool and nylon blend hand dyed in Montana. The primary contrast color, Peacock, was hand dyed in Germany, with super-soft single-ply yarn from 19.5 mic merino sourced in South Africa. Slender stripes in the body of the shawl were made with a trio of greens of merino, cashmere and nylon, hand dyed in New Jersey.    PATTERN Designed by Natasja Hornby, aka @moonstruck_knits, with slight modifications by me to bring additional color into the border of the wrap.    Care: Carefully hand wash and rinse in cold water using a wool wash. Do not mix with other garments. Do not agitate excessively or expose to temperature extremes, or the wool could felt. Gently press (not wring!) out excess water with a towel and dry flat in the original shape. Do not hang to dry.   Return Policy: Your satisfaction with your order is my paramount concern.
