French Porcelain and Gilt Brass Jewelry Casket with Figural Scene, Signed Rochette Circa 1890–1910

French Porcelain and Gilt Brass Jewelry Casket with Figural Scene, Signed Rochette Circa 1890–1910 A beautifully detailed late 19th to early 20th century French jewelry casket, centered with a hand painted porcelain plaque depicting a romantic figural scene of a reclining woman attended by cherubs, framed within a rich turquoise ground and elaborate gilt decoration.   The plaque is signed Rochette, and shows the soft painterly quality associated with Belle Époque porcelain work, with delicate coloration, fluid drapery, and that dreamy, idealized subject matter that defined the period. The surrounding border is equally striking, combining vibrant enamel color with raised gilt ornament in a classical scrolling design.   The casket itself is formed in gilt brass with a warm, aged patina, opening to reveal a fitted interior lined in deep burgundy velvet. The inside lid is finished with a hand painted floral spray on porcelain, adding an additional layer of refinement and detail that is often missing in lesser examples.   Pieces like this were created as luxury vanity objects, intended to hold jewelry or personal treasures while serving as decorative statements on a dressing table. The combination of painted porcelain, rich color, and gilt metalwork makes this a quintessential example of French decorative arts at the turn of the century.   Condition Age appropriate wear to the gilt brass exterior with natural patina. Porcelain plaque and interior lid painting both well preserved. Velvet interior shows light wear consistent with age. Overall clean, stable, and displays beautifully.
