French Gilt Bronze Jewelry Box with Portrait Miniature on Ivory Circa 1890–1910

French Gilt Bronze Jewelry Box with Portrait Miniature on Ivory Circa 1890–1910 A beautifully detailed late 19th century French gilt bronze jewelry box, centered with a hand painted portrait miniature on ivory depicting a young woman in 18th century style dress, framed within an ornate scrolling surround.   The portrait has that soft, luminous quality characteristic of true ivory miniatures, with delicate brushwork and subtle tonal transitions that give the face a lifelike presence. The subject reflects the continued fascination with Louis XVI era beauty during the Belle Époque, where earlier aristocratic styles were romanticized and reinterpreted.   The box itself is richly cast with fine textural detail and classical ornament, forming a softly shaped, almost clover form silhouette that adds to its charm. The gilt surface has developed a warm, even patina over time, enhancing the depth of the casting.   Opening to the interior reveals its original fabric lining, featuring a delicate woven floral pattern that complements the femininity of the piece. Raised on small feet with a finished underside, it was designed as both a functional object and a decorative element for the dressing table.   Pieces like this were created as luxury vanity objects, intended to hold jewelry or personal keepsakes while serving as refined decorative accents.   Condition Age appropriate wear to the gilt bronze with natural patina. Portrait miniature well preserved with no visible damage. Interior fabric shows light wear consistent with age. Overall clean, stable, and displays beautifully.
