Cascahuin Añejo Tequila 88 Proof

Cascahuín Añejo Tequila 100% de Agave 88 Proof is a traditionally crafted, agave-forward añejo from El Arenal, Jalisco, combining the earthy mineral character of the Tequila Valley with restrained American oak maturation. Produced from 100% Tequilana Weber Blue Agave at historic NOM 1123, it is aged for 14 to 16 months in American oak barrels and, in this higher-strength release, bottled at 88 proof (44% ABV). The result is a rich yet balanced tequila showing mature cooked agave, dried fruit, toasted nuts, warm spice, and seasoned oak without allowing the barrel to overwhelm the spirit. Process & Profile Cascahuín has produced tequila in El Arenal, Jalisco since 1904, maintaining a traditional approach centered on authentic agave flavor and the distinctive character of the Valles region. The distillery operates under NOM 1123, and the core Añejo is produced entirely from Blue Weber agave. The agaves are cooked in traditional masonry ovens, allowing the piñas to slowly develop their natural cooked-agave sweetness. Extraction follows through a roller mill, after which fermentation takes place approximately 70% in stainless-steel tanks and 30% in cement tanks, without agave fibers. Distillation is carried out twice: first in a stainless-steel pot still with a copper coil, followed by a second distillation in a copper pot still with a copper coil. The tequila is then matured for 14–16 months in American oak barrels, enough time to develop añejo depth while keeping the underlying cooked agave clearly recognizable. The 88-proof / 44% ABV bottling adds greater concentration and texture to the traditional Cascahuín Añejo profile. Current U.S. listings identify this higher-strength edition in a 750ml bottle, while retaining the same 14–16 month American oak maturation and 100% Blue Weber agave foundation. On the nose, Cascahuín’s official profile highlights raisins, almond, peach, and toasted peanut, with the signature aroma of cooked agave remaining prominent even after time in the glass. Additional layers of light caramel, seasoned oak, and warm spice deepen the aromatic profile. The palate brings together mature cooked agave, dried fruit, toasted nuts, vanilla, warm spice, and natural American oak. The barrel contributes richness and structure, but the tequila remains distinctly agave-driven rather than becoming overly sweet or heavily wooded. The finish is silky yet gently drying, reflecting the natural tannin of the oak, with lingering cooked agave, toasted nuts, pepper, dried fruit, and seasoned wood. The elevated 88-proof strength gives the finish additional persistence and warmth while maintaining balance. What makes Cascahuín Añejo Tequila 100% de Agave 88 Proof especially compelling is its combination of traditional masonry-oven cooking, Valley-grown Blue Weber agave, 14–16 months in American oak, additive-free production, and a higher 44% ABV bottling strength. Rather than using oak to disguise the tequila, Cascahuín allows maturation to complement the roasted agave, dried-fruit, nutty, and mineral characteristics at the heart of the spirit. Enjoy it neat in a tequila or tasting glass to appreciate the full balance of agave and oak. A few drops of water can open additional fruit and spice, while a large cube creates a softer, slower sipping experience.
