Credited with warning a Scottish army encampment that an invading band of Vikings was trying to sneak up on them, the Thistle has been the national emblem of Scotland since King Alexander III’s reign (1249 - 1286). The legend says that one of the hapless Norsemen discovered a Thistle with his bare foot during the nocturnal raid, and let out with a vey loud ouch. This trinket box is hand carved in Poland out of Linden wood from the Tatra Mountains. A large thistle is carved on the top and front. Each beautiful box is lovingly and finely crafted by hand the same way they’ve been doing it for hundreds of years. Hinged lid. Overall: 7-3/8" long, 5-3/8" wide, 2" tall
