Carolina Men's Miner 6" Carbon Composite Toe Metguard Waterproof Work Shoe CA5587

These men’s 6” waterproof carbon composite toe D3O® internal metguard boots help conquer the job while keeping you covered. As reliable miners boots, the lightweight carbon composite fiber safety toe cap and D3O® internal metatarsal guard team up for superior protection, while the waterproof SCUBALINER™ helps keep you dry and comfortable. Key Features of the Carolina CA5587 Carbon Composite Fiber Toe Cap — A carbon fiber weave cuts toe-cap weight while meeting ASTM F2413 for impact (I/75) and compression (C/75). Winged D3O® Internal MetGuard — Meets ASTM F2413 Class Mt75. A rate-sensitive polymer that flexes as you walk and stiffens on impact. Rancher Sedona Leather Upper — Durable leather in a 4x4 work-shoe profile. Carolina TigerTip® — A high-abrasion guard over the toe that extends the shoe's life. Waterproof SCUBALINER™ — Carolina's sealed proprietary waterproof lining system. Mesh Lining — Breathable against the foot. Removable Double Tuff Polyurethane Footbed & EVA Midsole — Cushioned support underfoot. Non-Metallic Shank — Composite support with no steel in it. Electrical Hazard Rated — Tested to withstand up to 18,000 volts at 60Hz for one minute without leakage. Cement Construction & Heavy-Duty Slip-Resisting Rubber Outsole — A bonded sole that keeps the shoe light and flexible. Met Protection in a 6" Shoe Metatarsal guards usually arrive bolted to a heavy boot, because a rigid plate needs a rigid platform. D3O® changes that: the guard is soft enough to sit inside a low-cut work shoe and still meet Mt75. If your site requires met protection but your work rewards agility, this is an unusual combination. How D3O® Works D3O® is rate-sensitive. Its molecules flow freely at walking speed, so the guard bends with your foot and you forget it's there. On impact they lock together and the material goes rigid, absorbing and spreading the force. It's the same principle behind motorcycle and military body armour. What a Metatarsal Guard Actually Protects A safety toe covers the toes and nothing else. The metatarsals — the long bones running from your toes back toward the ankle — sit exposed under thin leather on an ordinary shoe. A dropped die, a rolled pipe, or a load slipping off a forklift lands there. An Mt75 guard is rated to absorb a 75-pound-force impact across that whole area. Why Choose the CA5587? Waterproof, EH rated, Mt75 met protection and a carbon toe — in a low-cut shoe you can move in. Similar Styles to Consider Want the same D3O® guard with an 11" shaft? The Actuator CA8537. Soft and flexible under normal movement, it stiffens instantly on impact to absorb and disperse force. It lets a met guard be thin and comfortable rather than a rigid plate strapped over your instep — which is what makes met protection possible in a 6" shoe. What does the Mt75 rating mean? It is the ASTM F2413 metatarsal impact classification. The guard is tested to withstand a 75-pound-force impact across the top of the foot — the same energy threshold used for the I/75 toe rating, applied to a different part of the shoe. Is any part of the protection metal? The toe cap is carbon composite, the shank is non-metallic, and the D3O® guard is a polymer — none of the three is metal. Carolina does not publish the lace hardware material, so if you need a fully metal-free shoe for a detector-controlled access point, confirm before ordering. What is the TigerTip®? A high-abrasion guard wrapped over the toe. It protects the leather from scuffing rather than your foot from impact — the carbon composite cap underneath does that — and it meaningfully extends the shoe's service life. How does cement construction affect the shoe? The outsole is bonded directly to the upper rather than stitched through a welt, which keeps the shoe light and lets it flex from the first day, with no break-in underfoot.
