Captive Unicorn table runner Metropolitan Cloisters tapestries The Captive Unicorn table runner is an adaptation of a famous tapestry in the late 15th century series The Hunt of the Unicorn. These Unicorn Tapestries were possibly commissioned for the wedding of Louis XII of France and Anne of Brittany. They are now now displayed at the Metropolitan Cloisters in New York. The seven Unicorn Tapestries were woven between 1495 and 1505 in Brussels in wool and silk with gilt and silver threads featuring about 100 different plants. The Captive Unicorn table runner shows the unicorn in settings of allegorical symbolism expressing purity and fertility, Christian and human love. Woven in France and fully lined, the dimensions include the tassels. See numerous other French table runners with medieval motifs including several from the Lady with the Unicorn tapestries series. Here is this French table runner in a lovely home setting in St. Louis, Missouri:
