Cape Tribulation

Some shots are caught; other shots are carefully planned, days, weeks or months in advance. This stunning sunrise shot of Cape Tribulation, located within the Daintree National Park in Far North Queensland, Australia, came together through a combination of careful planning and good old luck. Merr detailed her efforts to create this photograph: “I’ve wanted to take this photo for a long time. From my research I knew that the sunrise was the best time to photograph, and here sunrise is very, very short. You have to be fast and be prepared. “I scouted the location the day before to find the best angles so that when I was here the next morning I could get exactly what was in my mind’s eye—this particular section of the coast where the amazing rain forest tumbles down to the coast with the sand separating the two.”
