Originated in the 17th century, Cape Malay was adapted from the Indian and Indonesian migrants coming to Cape Town in search of work. This unique blend is a balanced combination of sweet and savory flavors. In South Africa, this curry blend is traditionally used to flavor several dishes, including beef curries, kebabs, and rich tomato-vegetable stews. This well-proportioned and carefully selected spice combinations include cloves, cumin, coriander, fenugreek, fennel, pepper, cardamom, turmeric, ginger, curry leaves and chilli.
