Cantera Negra Reposado Tequila

Cantera Negra Reposado Tequila is an elegantly balanced expression that bridges bright agave character with refined oak influence. Smooth and aromatic with nuanced warmth from barrel resting, it offers both approachability and complexity — ideal for sipping neat, enjoying over ice, or elevating premium tequila cocktails. Origins & Craftsmanship Cantera Negra Reposado Tequila is crafted in Jalisco, Mexico, from 100% Blue Weber agave grown in the highland regions, where rich soils and warm days/cool nights produce expressive, sugar-dense piñas. After hand harvesting, the agave hearts are slow-roasted, fermented with natural yeasts, and double-distilled in copper stills to preserve both purity and nuance. Unlike the unaged blanco, this reposado spends a period of resting in oak barrels — typically between 2 and 12 months — allowing the spirit to marry its agave essence with rounding notes of wood. The barrels contribute gentle spice, vanilla, and subtle caramel complexity without overpowering the inherent brightness of fresh tequila. The result is a flavorful, smooth-textured reposado that honors its origins while offering enhanced aromatic and structural layers. Critics Reviews There are no widely published formal professional critic scores available specifically for Cantera Negra Reposado Tequila from major spirits publications such as Whisky Advocate or Wine Enthusiast. Within bartender communities and tequila enthusiast reviews, it is frequently noted for its well-integrated oak influence, expressive agave core, and versatility in both classic and innovative cocktails. Tasting Profile Nose: Warm and inviting, with baked agave, vanilla bean, and toasted oak at the forefront. Secondary aromas of light honey, baking spice, and citrus zest add depth and intrigue. Palate: Medium-bodied and smooth, revealing caramelized agave, oak spice, and soft vanilla, layered with hints of butterscotch, dried apricot, and gentle cinnamon. The oak influence supports rather than overshadows the vegetal agave character. Finish: Clean to moderately long, with lingering oak warmth, citrus brightness, and soft spice that invite the next sip.
