Canon Speedlite EL-5 (Version 2) Flash

Canon's powerful speedlite brings all the features and performance of the previous-generation Speedlite EL-5, and adds even more robust wireless, off-camera capabilities — extending its potential range from the transmitter or sender flash unit to 164 feet (nearly 50m). Flash performance is excellent, beginning with its flash coverage and power. Automatic or manual zooming of the flash head can match the coverage of 24mm to 200mm or longer lenses on a full-frame camera (equivalent to 15mm-125mm+ lenses on an APS-C sensor camera). Maximum flash power delivers a Guide Number of approximately 169.9 (in feet) or 60 (in meters), zoomed to the 200mm position. That translates into an effective flash distance range, at its 35mm zoom setting, of up to 42 feet at f/2.8 and ISO 100 — that doubles to approximately 84 feet at ISO 400. A powerful Canon LP-EL rechargeable battery pack delivers up to 350 flashes at full manual power — and many more at reduced power settings — along with 1.2 second flash recycling at full manual power. There's a built-in, continuous LED modeling lamp to preview lighting coverage and shadows. And it's fully integrated into Canon's Wireless E-TTL flash system, compatible with all previous radio-based Canon wireless flash units and transmitters. It's also fully compatible with Canon EOS cameras equipped with the advanced Multi-function Shoe design, permitting extensive integrated control between camera and speedlite. For those who prefer to use the controls on the flash, the EL-5 Ver. 2 retains the superb control dial, joystick, and LCD screen from the original EL-5. A Performance Flash for Today's Advanced Imagemaker The Speedlite EL-5 Ver. 2 receives some of the best features of the flagship Speedlite EL-1 flash to improve the agility and versatility of the working imagemaker or advanced photographer. With the use of the Canon LP-EL rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack, built-in modeling light (LED), impressive flash output range, and updated user interface controls and customization, the Speedlite EL-5 Ver. 2 is the ideal tool to elevate your flash photography. High-Speed Charging and Reliable Exposures The high-speed charging system of the Speedlite EL-5 Ver. 2 is designed to meet the creative needs of the advanced image maker. With the use of the LP-EL rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack, recycle times are greatly reduced even when compared to a Speedlite 600EX II-RT using the CP-E4N battery pack. With the ability to recharge in just 1.2 seconds during full power flash sequences in Normal flash mode, and recharging in approximately 0.1 seconds at minimum power in Normal flash mode, the Speedlite EL-5 Ver. 2 is a high-performance flash that can deliver stable flash output even during high action situations. At full power, it can be fired up to 95 continuous times or more. Battery Pack LP-EL is charged with the same Canon LC-E6 charger that's used for the LP-E6-type batteries used in many EOS cameras. Please note that the Speedlite EL-5 Ver. 2 is sold in some markets without the LC-E6 battery charger included; it can be purchased as an accessory at extra cost. Versatile Flash Output Whether shooting indoors or out, in dark situations or bright, or with a close-up or far subject, the Speedlite EL-5 Ver. 2 has numerous features to handle challenging situations with ease. Whether you need maximum flash output to capture a deep depth of field scene in a dark environment, or just a kiss of fill-light to reduce shadows on a subject's face, the Speedlite EL-5 Ver. 2 has you covered with an extended flash output range of 1/1 to 1/1024th power (a three-stop improvement compared to the Speedlite 600EX-II RT at 1/1-1/128th), with full 1/1 manual power emitting a guide number of 60m/169.9ft @200mm (at approximately ISO 100). Working with a variety of lenses is also easy, as the auto zoom functionality allows flash coverage from 24-200mm. An additional 14mm wide panel can also be used for wider-angle flash coverage when working beyond 24mm. Multi-Function Shoe Connection The digital connector at the bottom of the Speedlite EL-5 Ver. 2's Multi-function Shoe "foot" allows for greater flash-to-camera communication. You get superior coordination between the camera and the flash unit compared to previous Canon Speedlites, including the "Menu direct" function, Customize button function, and Custom flash modes. Gold-plated terminals in the shoe improve connection quality, and installation status is checked before starting communications to ensure a reliable connection to cameras such as the Canon EOS R3, R7, R10, and R6 Mark II. Custom Flash Modes C1, C2, C3 Changing flash modes and settings on the fly in high-stress situations can be extremely challenging. With the addition of Custom Flash modes, the ability to instantly switch between registered settings, including E-TTL auto flash to manual flash and individual values, is now possible. This is extremely helpful in situations where ambient light changes frequently, or when your lighting priority shifts from lighting a scene to lighting only a face. This versatility can also link C1, C2, and C3 at the flash to C1, C2, and C3 at the camera on compatible cameras, allowing the recall of flash settings registered in the Speedlite EL-5 Ver. 2 using the camera's shooting mode. Intuitive UI Design The Speedlite EL-5 Ver. 2 sports a modern and refined look, featuring the same joystick, Select dial, and LCD panel as the flagship Speedlite EL-1, creating an intuitive user interface that enables quick adjustments while shooting. With camera-linked functions available through the "Speedlite menu direct button" in compatible EOS R-series cameras' "Customize Buttons" menu, the joystick can easily display "Flash function settings" or "Quick flash group control" screens on the camera LCD screen for quick adjustments. The high-visibility LCD panel makes it easy to check settings and available battery during high action situations. Modeling Lamp Previewing the effect of a flash is easier with the addition of a built-in LED modeling lamp. Brightness level can be set at five different levels, controlled either by a dedicated button or by pressing the shutter twice. Off-camera Speedlite EL-5 Ver. 2 receiver unit modeling lamps can also be activated and deactivated from a sender Speedlite EL-5 Ver. 2 to check flash effect when using multiple speedlites. Expanded App Controls Canon's Camera Connect smartphone app allows users to control wireless flash settings, shutter release, and check photo results. Users can operate and configure these settings from a smartphone without touching the camera or flash unit(s), which is particularly useful for multi-flash shooting, flash units placed in hard-to-reach spots, and shooting with a limited number of assistants. Choose the placement and direction of each flash unit, then use the app to adjust light intensity while checking shooting results on the smartphone screen. Dust and Moisture Resistance In addition to a new rubber seal around the shoe locking mechanism, the EL-5 Ver. 2 achieves dust and moisture-resistant performance equivalent to that of the EOS R5. Sealing is applied to the joints of the exterior cover to ensure airtightness, so dust and moisture are prevented from penetrating the unit body even under difficult shooting conditions. Key Features Borrows top features from the flagship Speedlite EL-1, including a lithium-ion rechargeable battery and modeling lamp 67% increase in wireless range (164 ft.) versus the original EL-5 (98 ft.) Compatible with LC-E6 Battery Charger (not included) High-speed charging circuits deliver a recharge time of 0.1 to 1.2 seconds Continuous flash count of approximately 95 or more at full output, with no fan required Up to 350 continuous flashes on a single charge using the rechargeable LP-EL battery Same joystick control and high-definition LCD as the EL-1 Enhanced functionality with EOS R-series cameras: assign flash functions to the control ring, use quick flash group control, and set up multi-flash shooting Remote control via the free Canon Camera Connect app for flash intensity, flash compensation, sync settings, multi-flash control, and FEB
