Camellia Winter's Joy

Camellia Winter’s Joy is a mid-sized evergreen shrub prized for its upright, columnar growth habit and glossy, deep green foliage that provides year-round interest. This cold-hardy camellia produces large, semi-double cherry pink flowers with crinkled petal edges and bright yellow stamens, blooming earlier than most camellias from mid-fall through winter. The vibrant blooms attract butterflies and gently shed their petals when spent, helping the plant maintain a clean, fresh appearance. Ideal for southern gardens and landscapes, Camellia Winter’s Joy thrives in partial sun and prefers acidic, well-drained soil. Perfect as a flowering hedge, foundation planting, or specimen shrub, it adds seasonal color when few other plants are in bloom.  Type:  Shrub Height: 6' - 8' Spread: 4' - 6’ Spacing: 5’ USDA Hardiness Zone: 7 - 9 Culture: Full Sun to Part Sun Bloom Color: Pink Season of Interest: Fall - Year Round   MAINTENANCE NEEDS: Low maintenance.  Too much water retention can increase susceptibility to fungal diseases, including root rot, black mold, blight, canker, anthracnose, and leaf spots.  Watch for aphids and spider mites.   Yellowing leaves indicate acidity too low.  When flowers are too dense to fully open, prune dead or weak wood. LANDSCAPE USES: Accents or Group Plantings, Borders, Woodland Gardens, Wildlife Gardens, Naturalized Areas, Screening, Foundation Plantings, Hedges, and Containers.
