Doe Brand Carrots, California Crate Label

This charming Doe Brand carrots label from California's Imperial Valley showcases the golden age of American crate art at its most clever. The design layers multiple visual puns: a gentle doe peers into the frame while a baseball emblazoned with 'DOE' sits at the center of a bold red star, accompanied by the tagline 'Strictly Big League.' The connection is no accident: this label was produced for Joe D. Maggio, Inc. of Holtville, linking it to America's most famous baseball family. Printed by San Francisco's Schwabacher Frey, the label demonstrates the sophisticated lithographic techniques that made California produce packaging into collectible art. The rich blue background, vibrant orange carrots, and patriotic red star create an instantly memorable graphic identity. The concentric circles behind the baseball draw the eye to the brand name while the deer adds warmth and whimsy. A standout piece for collectors of California crate labels, baseball memorabilia, or mid-century commercial art, this label bridges agricultural history with America's favorite pastime.
