Cattle Feeder | Calf Hay Feeder for Young Livestock by Sioux Steel

Overview Calf Hay Feeder – A Durable Cattle Feeder for Young Livestock Raising young livestock requires equipment that’s built for their unique needs. Calves, lambs, and even alpacas don’t just need access to hay — they need it in a safe, efficient, and manageable way. That’s why the Calf Hay Feeder from Sioux Steel was designed with ranchers and farmers in mind. This isn’t just another cattle feeder; it’s a specialized solution that ensures young animals get the nutrition they need while reducing waste and keeping your operation efficient. With its smart design, this livestock feeder gives smaller animals safe access to hay without letting them climb in and spoil it. A mid-level bar set at 12″ makes it easy for calves and other young stock to feed comfortably while preventing overreach or entanglement. The feeder includes 24 nine-inch openings around its frame, which means one unit can accommodate up to 100 head at once. For ranchers managing groups of calves or smaller herds, this is an invaluable feature that saves both time and labor. Capacity is another standout benefit. The feeder’s 6.5′ diameter is built to handle loose hay, round bales, or square bales, offering flexibility no matter how you manage your forage. Whether you’re storing hay in rounds or squares, this feeder ensures easy feeding and consistent availability for your livestock. Durability is guaranteed thanks to its construction from 50,000 psi hi-tensile steel tubing. Even though the feeder is lighter and easy to move, it doesn’t compromise on strength. Coated with Sioux Steel’s signature Prairie Gold powder finish, it resists rust, stands up to harsh weather, and holds strong against daily wear. For ranchers looking for equipment that lasts, this feeder checks every box. Safety is a top priority in its design. Rounded edges and stable support reduce risks of injury to necks or legs, ensuring that even curious young calves can feed comfortably without harm. A well-designed cattle feeder hay system like this helps prevent the costly injuries or illnesses that can arise from poorly built or makeshift feeders. Practicality is also built in. Because of its lighter frame, the feeder is easier to move between barns, pens, and pastures. For operations that shift feeding locations frequently, this flexibility is a time-saver and adds to the overall efficiency of your ranch. The Calf Hay Feeder is a true cost-effective investment. By reducing hay waste, minimizing spoilage, and lasting for years with minimal maintenance, it pays for itself many times over. Ranchers who have adopted this model consistently see lower feed costs, better herd health, and smoother day-to-day management of their young livestock. In short: this feeder combines safety, durability, and efficiency into a single piece of equipment. For ranchers raising calves or smaller livestock, it’s a must-have tool to keep animals healthy, feeding costs low, and operations running smoothly.
