Introduce a touch of the unusual with the Calathea Rufibarba 'Furry Feather', a distinctive variant within the Calathea family known for its intriguingly textured leaves. This plant is perfect for those who appreciate the finer details in nature and are looking to enhance their indoor garden with something truly unique. Botanical Name: Calathea Rufibarba 'Furry Feather' Common Names: Peacock Plant, Zebra Plant Features and Plant Care: Unique Texture: The 'Furry Feather' is named for its velvety, fur-like texture on the underside of its leaves, which are a vibrant green color. The tops of the leaves are equally beautiful, featuring a deeper green shade that complements any indoor plant collection. Leaf Movement: As with all Calatheas, the 'Furry Feather' exhibits nyctinastic movements—its leaves move in response to the light, closing up at night and opening during the day, adding an interactive and dynamic element to its presence. Ideal Growing Conditions: Light Requirements: Prefers low to medium indirect light. Direct sunlight should be avoided as it can scorch the leaves and fade their rich colors. Humidity and Watering: Enjoys high humidity environments and requires consistent moisture to thrive. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch, and mist the leaves regularly to maintain high humidity. Temperature: Performs best in warm conditions typical of its tropical origins, ideally between 65°F and 75°F (18°C to 24°C). Care and Maintenance: Soil: Should be planted in a well-draining but moisture-retentive soil mix to support its growth. Fertilization: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every month during the growing season to encourage healthy foliage and robust growth. General Maintenance: Regularly clean the leaves to enhance their texture and appearance. Pruning old or yellowing leaves will promote new growth and maintain the plant’s aesthetics.
