Cakebread Cellars Benchland Select Cabernet Sauvignon

Benchland Select Cabernet Sauvignon is a bold, small-lot wine that captures the rugged beauty of Napa Valley’s mountain-grown fruit. Sourced from high-elevation vineyards on the steep, rocky slopes of Howell Mountain, it offers structure, depth, and power—crafted to highlight the intense character that only mountain Cabernet can deliver. The winemaking process is hands-on from start to finish, with fermentation managed in small lots to carefully balance extraction, tannin, and fruit. Aging in predominantly new French oak brings added richness, spice, and polish to the wine. The result is a full-bodied expression layered with dark cherry, fig, cocoa, and subtle herbal notes—a Cabernet built for those who crave bold flavor and a lasting finish. It’s enjoyable now with decanting, but its structure and oak integration make it a great candidate for cellaring over several years. 2. What makes mountain-grown Cabernet different? Higher elevation vines produce smaller berries with thicker skins, resulting in more concentrated flavors, firm tannins, and remarkable depth. 3. Is Benchland Select related to Dancing Bear Ranch? Both are made with a focus on mountain fruit and precision winemaking, but they come from distinct vineyard sources and offer unique expressions.
