Cacao Shells Roasted Organic

Cacao Shells (Theobroma cacao) Long before chocolate became the world's most beloved indulgence, cacao was something more ancient and more sacred. The Olmec, Maya, and Aztec civilizations of Central and South America were drinking it as a ceremonial beverage as far back as 1500 BC — each culture adding its own signature blend of spices and flavorings to the bitter, complex drink that they understood to be something quite extraordinary. The botanical name says it plainly: Theobroma — "food of the gods." A small evergreen tree native to the tropical forests of Central and South America, cacao produces large, colorful pods directly from its trunk and branches, each one containing the precious seeds we know as cacao beans. When those beans are roasted and processed, the thin outer shells — once discarded as a byproduct — reveal themselves to be something quietly wonderful in their own right. Our organic roasted cacao shells carry a deep, earthy cocoa aroma and a rich chocolatey flavor that brews into something remarkably close to a cup of hot chocolate — warming, grounding, and deeply satisfying. After the Spanish conquest of the 1500s, cacao made its way from Mesoamerica into Europe, where it was first consumed as a beverage before eventually transforming into the solid chocolate we know today. Its journey from sacred ceremonial drink to worldwide culinary staple is one of the great botanical stories of human history — and through it all, the flavor has remained as compelling as ever. Cacao shells are a natural and delicious addition to herbal tea blends, lending a warming chocolatey depth to any formulation they join. They pair beautifully with warming spices like cinnamon and cardamom, with adaptogens like mushrooms, and with herbs like damiana, rose, and valerian for a rich, comforting evening blend. Brew them alone as a single ingredient cacao tea, or use them as a flavorful base that makes even the most medicinal of blends taste like a treat. Precautions: Cacao shells contain caffeine and may cause nervousness, irritability, or sleeplessness in sensitive individuals, and occasionally a rapid heartbeat. Not recommended for children under the age of 18. As with all herbal products, we recommend consulting a qualified healthcare practitioner before use, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, or taking any medications.
