c. 1870s; Ed. Neumann - Dorotheenthal bei Arnstadt, Germany This Gothic Revival oak parlor cabinet is a striking example of late 19th-century German craftsmanship. The piece features elaborate hand-carved motifs including stylized trees and floral ornament, flanked by columned supports and stepped architectural tiers. The upper section includes a small compartment with divided glass doors (all but one pane original) and flanking cupboards with adjustable shelving. The central open arcade with turned supports recalls ecclesiastical tracery, while the lower section offers two wide drawers above paneled doors with deep relief carving. Original brass hardware remains intact, and the working key is present to secure all compartments. Produced by Ed. Neumann, a cabinetmaker active in Dorotheenthal near Arnstadt, this piece reflects the firm's reputation for richly carved Gothic and Renaissance revival furniture in the mid- to late-19th century. Refinishing has been done once in its lifetime, leaving the wood with a warm, even tone and minimal signs of age. Overall, the cabinet survives in excellent condition with original function and visual presence intact.
