The Complete Works of Lord Byron

6b Lord Byron, Paris: Baudry’s European Library, 1835. Notes The Complete Works of Lord Byron refers to the collected writings of George Gordon, Lord Byron, one of the most influential and renowned poets of the Romantic era. Byron's works encompass a wide range of genres, including poetry, plays, and prose, and his writing often reflects themes of passion, individualism, rebellion, and the exploration of human emotions. Some of his most famous poems include Childe Harold's Pilgrimage, Don Juan, and She Walks in Beauty. Byron was known for his vivid, lyrical language and his portrayal of strong, flawed, and often melancholic characters who challenge social norms and conventions. His poetry also frequently explores the concepts of nature, love, and personal freedom. Byron's Don Juan stands out as a sprawling narrative poem, both satirical and playful, that retells the legendary story of the infamous lover in a witty and ironic manner, contrasting traditional views of morality with his own free-spirited approach. Childe Harold's Pilgrimage is a semi-autobiographical work, reflecting Byron's travels and his growing disillusionment with society, providing a powerful meditation on self-exploration and existentialism. Beyond his poetry, Byron also wrote several plays, including Manfred and Cain, which explore themes of guilt, defiance, and the human condition. As a public figure, Byron’s personal life, including his political activism, turbulent relationships, and scandals, contributed to his reputation as the quintessential "Byronic hero"—a charismatic yet brooding individual often at odds with society. The Complete Works of Byron offers a comprehensive look at the poet’s legacy and his lasting influence on literature and culture. Description Extraordinary full calf, 10.5 inches tall.
