Butterfly Medallion Stencil

If you love butterflies, this stencil is for you! Stencil this Butterfly Medallion on a ceiling in your kids room or nursery! This stencil medallion also works great in Living room or Bath, or pretty much any wall space that needs some interest. This stencil will also work on walls and fabrics. If you compare our stencil thickness, size, design quality and prices, you will be amazed at the value that Cutting Edge Stencils offer! Be creative: use different colors for each butterfly, create your own allover butterfly stencil pattern, add shading - possibilities are endless. You can stencil over simple latex paint, plaster, faux finish background or even wallpaper if it is in decent condition. This butterfly stencil is so easy to use, virtually anyone can do it. You'll need to mist the stencil with spray adhesive (Elmer's is great) then tape the stencil to the ceiling using BLUE painter's tape, then load your foam roller with the paint of your choice (latex or acrylic). Get rid of excess paint by rolling the foam roller over a folded paper towel. Then, just roll it over the stencil applying medium pressure for an instant fabulous result! Don't press on the roller too hard otherwise you might get some bleed. Remove the stencil, rotate it 180 degrees, tape it and do it again. It's better to remove the light fixture when you stencil, but you can stencil with the fixture in place, too. If your escutcheon plate is wider than the center of the stencil, simply widen the stencil center with scissors by removing the smallest row of butterflies. When stenciling on fabric, stencil adhesive is very helpful. First, tape your ironed fabric to the surface so it doesn't move around while you stencil. Use stencil brushes, or roller, and add some textile medium ( sold in craft stores) to your acrylic paint. You can also get a special fabric paint, but, frankly, good craft acrylics with a dollop of textile medium work just as well, and cost way less too! :) Let the stenciled image dry completely, 24 hours is best, then heat-set it by ironing the fabric for about 20 sec. ( more or less) on a LOW setting through the piece of cloth. Heat-setting will cure the paint and will prevent it from being washed off in the washing machine. Always experiment with a sample of your fabric first to ensure good results. I've stenciled on silk, cotton, linen and even sheer fabrics with great results. It's always better if your fabric doesn't have too much texture.
