Jelly Palm - Butia capitata

Jelly Palm (Butia capitata) brings tropical elegance to temperate landscapes with its distinctive feathery fronds and ornamental fruit production. This cold-hardy palm species tolerates temperatures down to 5°F, making it viable for USDA zones 8-11 and protected microclimates in zone 7. The graceful, blue-green pinnate foliage creates striking architectural interest, while small yellow flowers give way to edible orange fruits with a distinctive jelly-like flavor. Thrives in full sun to partial shade with well-draining soil and moderate water requirements once established. An exceptional specimen plant for creating focal points, tropical ambiance, and functional fruit production in cooler climates where traditional palms struggle.
