Business Jiu Jitsu Softcover

What you learn on the mat in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can make you successful in business. Being an entrepreneur is tough. No matter how well you plan and strategize, things can fall apart, failure can seem imminent, and the stress can weigh you down like an opponent who’s double your size and strength. Sometimes you find yourself so stuck in a position that you fear you might have to tap out. Fortunately, the principles that allow you to succeed in jiu jitsu can also be used to win in business. Author Jordan Edwards learned this firsthand during the COVID-19 pandemic, as he fought to keep Mixology Clothing Company open. Edwards combined the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu principles he’d learned on the mats into a technical framework that not only kept his company alive but allowed it to thrive. In this book, he shares stories from the pandemic that highlight which BJJ principles he used in specific circumstances. He then demonstrates how these principles can be expanded to business in general. In Part One, Edwards covers the basics, including the need to create space so you can breathe when faced with adversity., Part Two moves into gaining control of your thoughts., Part Three brings everything together to discuss finishing principles and taking calculated risks by implementing a system of controls., By integrating these parts, readers will be able to make strategic, technical business decisions, even during times of uncertainty and fear. The framework, broken down into three parts, shows how the principles of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be applied to business. This approach proved so powerful that Edwards continues to run his company from this perspective and even applies it in his personal life. To further enrich the insights shared in this book, Jordan Edwards launched the "Business Jiu Jitsu" podcast. This platform allowed him to engage in profound conversations with some of the brightest minds across various industries. From world champion athletes like Gordon Ryan and elite coaches such as John Danaher, to Olympians like Travis Stevens and Jimmy Pedro, the podcast provided a wealth of knowledge and diverse perspectives. Edwards also spoke with Navy SEALs like JP Dinnell, special operators such as Mike Rogers and Nick Koumalatsos, CrossFit champions like Jason Khalipa, and leaders from diverse professions, including marines, firefighters, teachers, musicians, and billion-dollar CEOs like Rich Byrne. These conversations reveal how the discipline, resilience, and strategic thinking honed on the Jiu-Jitsu mats translate into success in business and life. The universal lessons from these discussions have been integrated into the book, offering readers a comprehensive guide to navigating business challenges with the mindset of a Jiu-Jitsu practitioner.
