Fruit trees require full sun for the most vigorous growth and best harvest. Provide at least 6 hours of sunlight per day, favoring the drying power of the morning sun. Provide ample water for your young tree while it becomes established, not allowing it to dry out between waterings. Once settled, reduce your watering to moderate, yet consistent moisture during the heat of the summer growing season and when fruiting. Plant it in well-drained soil that's been enriched with lots of organic matter. Provide a generous layer of mulch to better retain the moisture of your soil, as well as insulate the root system from both the heat and winter's chill. Situate in an area that is protected from frost pockets and with good air circulation. Prune to keep an open canopy so that both sunlight and airflow reach the interior.
