Key Specifications: Product: Bulleit Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Bottled-in-Bond Mash Bill: 68% Corn, 28% Rye, 4% Malted Barley Proof | ABV: 100 Proof | 50% ABV Age: Approx. 7 Years (From the Spring 2017 distillation season) Distillery: Bulleit Distilling Co., Shelbyville, KY Brand History: A Frontier Legacy Revived The Bulleit brand story begins with Augustus Bulleit, a Louisville tavern keeper in the 1830s who created a unique bourbon with a high rye content. After he mysteriously vanished while transporting barrels to New Orleans, his recipe was nearly lost to history. In 1987, his great-great-grandson, Tom Bulleit, revived the family legacy, reintroducing the bold, spicy bourbon that has since become a global favorite. While Bulleit has a history of sourcing exceptional whiskey, this Bottled-in-Bond release proudly showcases the spirit crafted entirely at their own modern distillery, marking a new era of innovation and transparency. The mouthfeel is notably oily and substantial for a 100-proof bourbon, carrying notes of maple, nutmeg, and a hint of tart raspberry. Finish: The finish is long and satisfying, with a pop of rye spice, brown sugar, and a gentle, slightly dry charred oak note that lingers pleasantly. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Q: What does "Bottled-in-Bond" mean? A: Bottled-in-Bond is a US government designation established by the Act of 1897 to ensure a spirit's quality and authenticity. It requires the whiskey to be the product of a single distillery from a single distillation season (e.g., Spring 2017), aged for at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse, and bottled at precisely 100 proof (50% ABV). Q: How is this different from the standard Bulleit Bourbon? The standard Bulleit Bourbon is bottled at 90 proof. This Bottled-in-Bond version is bottled at a higher 100 proof, is guaranteed to be the product of a single distilling season, and is aged longer than the minimum requirement. Crucially, it is also the first release distilled entirely in-house at the Bulleit distillery in Shelbyville. Q: What is a "high-rye" bourbon? A high-rye bourbon uses a higher percentage of rye as its secondary flavoring grain (after corn). In Bulleit's case, the 28% rye content imparts a distinctively bold and spicy character compared to bourbons with less rye. Q: Is Bulleit Bottled-in-Bond a limited edition? While Bulleit has stated they plan to have future Bottled-in-Bond releases, each release is tied to a specific distillation season. This inaugural batch from the Spring 2017 season is, by its nature, a limited offering. Q: How should I drink Bulleit Bottled-in-Bond? Its 100-proof nature and balanced flavor make it incredibly versatile. It's fantastic to sip neat or on the rocks to appreciate its full complexity. It also makes an excellent base for classic cocktails like an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan, where its spicy character can shine. Q: Where can I purchase Bulleit Bottled-in-Bond? We recommend contacting our preferred retail partner, Nestor Liquor, to inquire about their inventory of this highly anticipated release.
