Planted early, it is an excellent trap crop for thrips during bloom of fruits and vines. Facts to Note: Non-legume broadleaf does not fix Nitrogen but is one of the best hot weather cover crops because of its ability to produce organic matter and smother summer weeds (Canada Thistle, Quackgrass, Nutgrass, etc) quickly. Quick to maturity so 2 to 4 plantings can be sown in one summer. Absolutely requires warm growing conditions.
