Brooks Air Force Base, located in San Antonio, Texas, was a pioneering United States Air Force installation that played a significant role in aerospace medicine, research, and education. Established in 1917, Brooks AFB served as the headquarters for the School of Aerospace Medicine and conducted groundbreaking research in aviation physiology, human factors, and aerospace medicine. The base also housed the USAF School of Aviation Medicine, where pilots and medical personnel received specialized training. Following its closure in 2011, Brooks AFB has been redeveloped into a mixed-use community, with its legacy preserved in the historic buildings and medical research facilities that remain on-site.
