Bronze Flax

Bronze Flax (Phormium tenax) is an architectural plant known for its dramatic, sword-shaped leaves that rise in stiff, upright fans. Unlike the standard green species, the bronze cultivar offers a deep, moody palette ranging from coppery browns to dark chocolate purples, making it a favorite for adding texture and year-round color to modern landscapes. It is exceptionally tough, wind-tolerant, and salt-hardy, making it a go-to choice for coastal gardens or as a bold focal point in large containers. While primarily grown for its stunning foliage, mature plants produce tall, nectar-rich flower spikes that tower above the leaves, attracting birds and pollinators. It is a rugged, low-maintenance "set and forget" plant that thrives in a variety of soil types, provided it has decent drainage.   Botanical Name   Phormium tenax Also Known As   New Zealand Flax | Swamp Flax | New Zealand Hemp | 棕色新西兰亚麻 Specifications Plant Type   Native From   USDA Zone   Light Needs   Watering Needs   Leaves   Life Cycle   Avg.
