Studies have shown that combining cold therapy with active compression provides greater benefits than cold alone. This therapy can significantly reduce swelling and pain after surgery or injury, improve joint mobility, and even reduce the need for opioid medications — all of which support faster, safer recovery. Reduces Post-Operative Pain and Swelling Cold and compression therapy has been clinically shown to significantly reduce pain and edema after surgery, helping patients feel more comfortable during the recovery process. Lowers Opioid Use Patients receiving cold and compression therapy often require fewer narcotics post-operatively, supporting safer, non-pharmacological pain management. Speeds Up Recovery The combined effects of cold and compression can accelerate the return of joint function and improve overall rehabilitation outcomes. Improves Range of Motion Especially after procedures like total knee arthroplasty, cold compression therapy has been linked to better early range of motion, allowing for more effective physical therapy More Effective Than Cold Therapy Alone Studies indicate that using cold with intermittent compression is more effective at reducing swelling than cold therapy alone.
