More Information Wheezing occurs when excessive mucus causes the swelling and narrowing of your airways. Inflammation and spasms of the bronchial tube lining soon lead to a tight feeling in the chest, labored breathing, and sometimes anxiety. Bouts of coughing follow in an attempt to clear out mucous. Many people feel as though they are being suffocated. In some cases, wheezing can be a very serious condition. Symptoms are being triggered by allergens, respiratory infections, overweight, occupational hazards, stress and strong emotions, exercise, cold air, digestive problems, and more. Children growing up in a household with smoking parents are more prone to develop difficulty breathing, and narrowed airways also tends to run in families. There is evidence that certain foods trigger shortness of breath. Leading culprits include eggs, milk, peanuts, soy, wheat, seafood, and fresh fruit. Food preservatives can also trigger wheezing. Further, most people with breathing difficulties have allergies to substances like pollen, animal dander, dust mites, perfumes, and cleaning agents. Avoiding potential triggers is the number one step in dealing with difficulty breathing. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, approximately 11 million workers are exposed to at least one agent that is associated with wheezing. Good indoor air quality and a clean environment are of significant importance in reducing symptoms. Popular conventional medications include bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroids which expand the airways to the lungs and work to decrease inflammation. Unfortunately, the long-term use of steroids can harm the body, especially when used at an early age.  Natural homeopathic remedy Breathe-Ease includes nine powerful ingredients that stimulate the respiratory centers, increase the amount of oxygen in the blood, and reduce inflammatory responses and mucus production.
