Breakers: Splitlight Legion (Dark Mutant Book #1)

THE SUMMER OF 1986 BRINGS A NEW GENERATION OF HEROES…AND THE MONSTER THAT WILL TEST THEM. Beneath the neon glow of 1986 Las Vegas, a classified experiment from the Nevada desert has awakened an entombed radioactive revenant that was never meant to return. “The Splitter” was once Dr. Aris Thorne, a brilliant atomic scientist transformed by a catastrophic accident at the Nevada Test Site. After decades buried in a lead-lined coffin beneath Yucca Mountain, he escapes as a terrifying fusion of nuclear energy, alien intelligence, and supernatural evil. Now he is on a mindless killing spree across Nevada—and marching toward Las Vegas. The only force standing in his way is the Breakers. Born from a secret government program at the Howard Hughes School for Gifted Mutants at Area 51, the Breakers are teenage superhumans trained to fight threats the world doesn’t know exist. Allure can bend emotions. Opticlaw can unleash telekinetic force. Lilliput can change her size. Slasher is a deadly fighter with a mysterious connection to animals. Gruel can absorb and survive almost anything. Led by Captain Daniel Nyx, a former military psychic haunted by his own past, the Breakers must uncover the truth behind the Splitter before Las Vegas becomes the next victim of a government conspiracy decades in the making. But the closer they get to defeating the monster, the more they discover that the greatest threat may not be the creature hunting them—it may be the secrets of the people who created them.
