Breakers: Hellskin Matrix (Dark Mutant Book #3)

THE SUMMER OF 1989 BRINGS A FINAL GENERATION OF HEROES…AND A DARKNESS THAT FEEDS ON US ALL. Las Vegas, 1989. The Breakers are no longer teenagers, and their battles are no longer secret. Celebrated by some and condemned by others, Opticlaw and Allure lead a new generation of heroes—including Camo, a master of disguise; Rewind, who can manipulate time; and Mallrat, a fearless urban explorer—while a sinister conspiracy gathers around them. Their mission begins when Damien Voss, a child with extraordinary abilities, is abducted by Stonefist, an ancient meteorite-forged guardian blamed for brutal murders. Dr. Cassandra Voss, the Area 51 scientist and Damien's mother, desperately searches for her son as Metro Detective Garrett Wade investigates the mysterious deaths surrounding the case. But the deeper they dig, the clearer it becomes that Stonefist may not be the monster they believe—and little Damien may be the only person who can see the true enemy. Televangelist Riker Dowdry helps awaken Stonefist from his ancient slumber, believing the mysterious guardian can protect humanity from forces he barely understands. Soon the megapastor realizes that a powerful secret society has its own plans for manipulating Stonefist and Damien—and for ushering the world into a terrifying new age. Behind the neon spectacle of Las Vegas, a gathering of elites is preparing the ultimate ritual atop an ersatz, blistering volcano: tearing open the barrier between worlds and unleashing the Dark Ones, interdimensional horrors that feed upon humanity's cruelty, hatred, and despair. From Tel Aviv to Area 51 and ultimately the Las Vegas Strip, the conspiracy draws the Breakers, Dr. Voss, Detective Wade, Dowdry, and Stonefist toward a confrontation that will determine the fate of humanity. As reality itself begins to fracture, former enemies must unite against creatures that grow stronger with every act of darkness. To save Damien—and the world—the Breakers must prove that hope is more than a weakness. But closing the doorway to darkness will require a sacrifice none of them is prepared to make.
