Clear Quartz — the stone of clarity, amplification, and limitless possibility. Pure, transparent variety of quartz known for its clarity and brilliance One of the most abundant and versatile minerals on Earth Found in stunning crystal formations: points, clusters, double-terminated, and more Highly valued by collectors, healers, and lapidary artists alike Known as the “master crystal” for its adaptability and universal appeal Exceptional durability with a Mohs hardness of 7 AKA (Also Known As) Rock Crystal – the most traditional and widely used historical name Crystal Quartz – a general descriptive trade name Pure Quartz – referring to its colorless, inclusion-free appearance Hyaline Quartz – a scientific term describing its transparent nature Ice Quartz – a poetic nickname inspired by its glass-like clarity Master Crystal – a modern metaphysical term reflecting its versatile reputation Specifications Mineral Name: Clear Quartz Chemical Formula: SiO₂ (Silicon Dioxide) Color: Colorless / transparent Hardness: 7 (Mohs scale) Luster: Vitreous (glassy) Crystal System: Hexagonal (trigonal division) Transparency: Transparent to translucent Cleavage: None Fracture: Conchoidal Localities Clear quartz is found worldwide, with some of the most notable sources including: Brazil (Minas Gerais) Arkansas, USA Madagascar Switzerland (Alpine regions) Pakistan (Skardu region) China (various provinces) Namibia India Each locality offers subtle differences in clarity, formation style, and crystal habit—making every specimen unique. Geological Formation Clear quartz forms in a wide range of geological environments, most commonly through: Hydrothermal processes: Silica-rich fluids cool within fractures in host rock, crystallizing over time Pegmatitic environments: Slow cooling of magma allows large, well-formed crystals to develop Metamorphic conditions: Quartz recrystallizes under heat and pressure Over millions of years, these processes create the iconic hexagonal prisms and pointed terminations that define quartz crystals.  Mineralogy Information Quartz is one of the most fundamental minerals in geology, composed entirely of silicon and oxygen. Its crystal structure is built from a continuous framework of SiO₄ tetrahedra, giving it remarkable stability and resistance to weathering. Clear quartz represents the purest form of quartz, lacking inclusions or trace elements that would otherwise impart color. Key Features Exceptional clarity and light transmission Strong, durable structure resistant to scratching Naturally occurring geometric perfection Versatile in both raw and polished forms Frequently displays fascinating internal features like veils, rainbows, or phantoms Geological Era Quartz has been forming since the Precambrian, over 4 billion years ago, and continues to form today. It is one of the most enduring minerals in Earth’s crust, appearing in nearly every geological era. Mineral Class Class: Silicates Group: Tectosilicates (framework silicates)  Rock Formation Quartz is a major component in many rock types, including: Igneous rocks: Granite, rhyolite Metamorphic rocks: Quartzite, schist Sedimentary rocks: Sandstone (often composed largely of quartz grains) Its resistance to weathering makes it a dominant mineral in Earth’s surface environments. Historical & Folklore Significance Clear quartz has captivated civilizations for thousands of years: Ancient Greeks believed it was eternal ice, frozen so deeply it would never thaw Romans carved it into seals and jewelry Japanese culture considered quartz the breath of a white dragon Indigenous cultures worldwide have used quartz in ceremonial and spiritual practices Its clarity and light-reflecting qualities have long symbolized purity, clarity, and power. Why Collectors Love It Universally recognizable and foundational to any collection Incredible variety of formations and growth habits Affordable entry point with high-end collector pieces available Pairs beautifully with other minerals in display settings Offers both scientific significance and aesthetic appeal Clear quartz is often the first crystal a collector acquires—and one they never stop appreciating. Display and Care Instructions Display: Showcase under natural or directional lighting to enhance brilliance Use dark or neutral backdrops for high contrast Group with complementary minerals for gallery-style presentation Care: Clean gently with warm water and mild soap Avoid harsh chemicals Store separately to prevent scratching softer minerals Handle with care to avoid chipping terminations  Metaphysical Nod Many believe clear quartz carries powerful energetic qualities. Common Associations: Amplification, clarity, focus, balance Chakras: Crown Chakra (primary), all chakras (universal alignment) Uses (belief-based): Enhancing intention, meditation, energy amplification Suggested Mantra: “I am clear, focused, and aligned with my highest intention.” Clear quartz is often regarded as a versatile companion—one that can adapt to and enhance personal intentions.  Why Trust Wandering Stones At Wandering Stones, we go beyond simply offering minerals—we curate experiences.
