Boyd Black & Tan Alloy Tubular Rear Disc Wheel

When designing an alloy wheel for cyclocross, we asked how to best design around a 700x32mm tubular tire. Tubular is still a big advantage in cyclocross where the lower pressures can be the difference between drilling the corner or being heckled for sliding out and falling down. With the low pressures and heavy cornering, keeping a tire securely glued in place can be a challenge. This is where the 32mm rim bed radius sets the Black and Tan apart from any other wheel on the market. It used to be you would need to build up layers of glue to smooth out the rim bed and get enough contact with the tire. Features: QUEST DISC BRAKE HUBS - Built on the quick engaging, tool free, durable Quest hubs. This centerlock disc brake hub comes on the heart of every Podium level wheelset. TUBULAR - With the off camber turns and mud, rocks, and roots of cyclocross racing, a tubular tire is a distinct advantage due to the ability to run lower pressures. Every top level cyclocross rider still rides tubular tires for this major advantage. 32MM RIM BED RADIUS - Do to the low tire pressures and off camber turns, the tires are under a lot of pressure to stay on the rim and not roll off. By having a rim bed optimized for larger cross tires, you will get edge to edge gluing and your tire will stay secure.
