Size 18 midge emergers are supposed to stay suspended in the surface film where the trout are sipping the real insects. Midges can be found on rivers and lakes worldwide - the name is short for chironomid. They tend to be small, though some shallow basin lakes have midges up to size 10. Trout are extremely color-specific when eating midges, so your midge box should have a variety of colors and sizes.
