Booknd

The Woud Booknd takes the basic concept of holding books upright and turns it into this smart sculptural solution that actually makes your shelves more interesting to look at. Designer Roel Vandebeek created two marble pieces - one small, one large - that combine soft cylindrical shapes with clean straight lines, and the genius is in how they stay visually connected even when you've got a whole row of books between them. Available in rich brown, deep black, and striking green marble finishes, each set weighs over 6 pounds total, so these aren't going anywhere when you lean heavy coffee table books against them. The larger bookend features strategic cutouts that keep the design feeling light despite the substantial marble construction, while the smaller piece provides the perfect counterbalance on the other end. What makes Booknd really clever is how it works as both functional storage and decorative art depending on how you use it. When you need them as actual bookends, the two pieces create this satisfying visual dialogue across your book collection - the repeated geometric forms tie everything together instead of just being random objects stuck on either end. But you can also use them separately as sculptural accents on different shelves or surfaces, since each piece looks intentional on its own. The smooth marble surface feels substantial and cool to the touch, and the natural stone patterns mean every set has unique variations and character. Whether you're organizing a small collection of favorite reads or anchoring a serious library, the weight distribution and stable base design handle everything from lightweight paperbacks to massive art books without tipping or sliding around. Woud builds from Denmark with founders Mia and Torben Koed connecting international design talent with Scandinavian principles, and Belgian designer Roel Vandebeek represents this collaboration perfectly. Working across art, industrial design, and interior design, Vandebeek brings his focus on user-centered design and sustainability to create pieces that solve real problems while looking beautiful. The Booknd is part of his HIDN collection concept, which explores "hidden connections in plain sight" - exactly what these bookends demonstrate by maintaining visual unity even when separated. Since founding in 2014, Woud has built their reputation on working with designers who understand that the best accessories should enhance daily routines rather than just taking up space, creating pieces that work as both functional tools and meaningful objects that bring intentionality to whatever room they inhabit.
