Leela Bookmark

Inspired by the intricate bhandani tie dye motifs on a Rajasthani lehenga, the Leela Bookmark, created from the scraps of our throw pillows, will delight bookworms of all ages. Hand printed and embroidered by artisans across Bangalore, New Delhi, and Kolkata, every pillow features subtle variations in the placement of the pattern that make it truly one-of-a-kind. Material: Cotton/linen blend Please note that as a unique, handmade bookmark, no two pieces are ever the same, and colors vary across monitors. Further, small imperfections are normal and reflect the handmade nature of this product. Spot clean only. These bookmarks are inspired by bandhani (derived from the Sanskrit root, bandh, which means “to bind” or “to tie”), a tie dye technique dating back to the Indus Valley civilization in 4000 B.C. which involves plucking cloth with the fingernails into many tiny bindings that form a figurative design. The most prolific bandhani design is an arrangement of polka-dot style dots into mini clusters, first seen in a 6th century wall painting depicting the life of the Buddha at the Ajanta Ellora caves in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.
