Booker's Bourbon is a barrel-proof, unfiltered small batch bourbon produced by Beam Suntory and bottled without chill-filtration or water dilution — what comes out of the barrel goes into the bottle. Booker's pioneered this format in 1988 and remains one of the most consistent cask-strength releases on the market. Each release is a unique batch with its own flavor signature and proof point (typically 120-130 proof). For context on why barrel-proof bourbon is having a moment in 2026, see our Barrel Proof Bourbon 101 guide. How often does Booker's release new batches? Booker's releases six new batches per year, typically on a roughly two-monthly cadence. Each batch has its own name — sometimes tied to Booker Noe's family members or distillery staff. The 2025-01 "Barry's Batch" currently in stock represents the first quarter release of 2025. When a good batch hits, the bourbon community pays attention, and these tend to move quickly. What we have in stock now may not be available next month, which is why allocated-focused drinkers watch Booker's releases closely. What does Booker's 2025-01 "Barry's Batch" taste like? Barry's Batch runs at roughly 125 proof and presents as a dense, warm, thick bourbon. The nose leads with leather, burnt sugar, and tobacco, with some charred oak underneath. On the palate, Booker's delivers chocolate, dark caramel, and a characteristic "Kentucky hug" — the warm, almost hot sensation that comes from drinking high-proof uncut bourbon. The finish is long and warming, with lingering notes of burnt sugar and tobacco smoke. At this proof, it's built for neat sipping or with a few drops of water to open the aromatics. How does Booker's compare to Elijah Craig Barrel Proof or Stagg? Elijah Craig Barrel Proof ($68.99) is lighter, more approachable, and better for barrel-proof newcomers — it has the Heaven Hill profile of toasted oak and dark cherry at a slightly lower proof (typically 120s). Booker's ($109.99) is thicker, more leather-and-tobacco forward, and built for heavier palates. Stagg ($169.99) sits above both in age statement and allocated rarity — it's generally over 130 proof and offers more complexity from extended barrel time. All three are tier-one cask-strength releases; choose based on flavor profile and budget rather than quality. Is Booker's a good entry into barrel-proof bourbon? Booker's is a better step-two than step-one. For first-time barrel-proof drinkers, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof ($68.99) is lighter and more accessible. But if you've had experience with bourbon above 100 proof and want to understand what serious barrel-proof drinkers talk about — that "Kentucky hug," that thick texture, that leather-and-tobacco forwardness — Booker's is where you go. The $109.99 price point is significant but not collector-tier; it's the "real bourbon" bottle that doesn't require an allocated hunt. Should I collect different Booker's batches? Many bourbon drinkers collect multiple Booker's batches to compare flavor variation batch-to-batch. The format (barrel-proof, unfiltered, single small batch) ensures variation is meaningful — Barry's Batch tastes notably different from other 2025 releases or prior years' batches. If you love this bottle, buying another batch when it releases is a legitimate collecting strategy. However, unlike Elijah Craig's three-per-year releases, Booker's six-per-year schedule means you can always chase the next batch. Our Allocated & Rare collection updates as batches arrive.
