Welcome to the majestic misty mountains. Where fog fills alpine valleys, rains flood roaring rivers, and streams flow down to a meadow and collect in a mossy, mountain bog. A bog might not seem like much on the surface. It's a wetland with spongy, damp soil and moss filled with decaying leaves and plants. But bogs play a crucial role in protecting their environment. By soaking up heavy summer rains, a bog prevents flooding, filters and replenishes groundwater, and provides a habitat for a vast array of plants and creatures, from busy beavers to endangered bog turtles--the tiniest turtles in the United States. With snappy, funny text and lush illustrations, this book invites curious readers to discover a tiny, unassuming ecosystem overflowing with life.Author BiographyAmy Hevron is an illustrator, graphic designer, and children's book author who lives in Seattle.
