Blood Meal Soil Amendment for Organic Farming and Gardening

Blood Meal is made from powdered and dried livestock blood.  Keep in mind that less is more when it comes to blood meal! If applied too heavily, the ammonia present in blood meal could burn your plants. Blood meal has many beneficial actions including: Stimulating the growth of beneficial bacteria Helping to correct iron deficiencies Provides fast release nitrogen  Excellent for accelerating organic matter decomposition in compost. It’s important to note that blood meal is leached out of the soil very quickly due to its water-solubility (it will hang around for about a month depending on how much water the soil is getting). Thus it might be necessary to do small applications every month or so throughout the growing season. Typical N-P-K analysis is 13-0-0* Recommended application rates: 12 lbs. per 1,000 square feet, 2-3 lbs. per 100 square feet, 2 lbs. per 20 feet row or 1/3 cup per plant.
