Bletilla striata Hardy Ground Orchid

Bletilla striata is a perennial ground growing orchid that produces racemes of small, cattleya-like, magenta blooms in mid to late spring. I's tall green, sword-shaped leaves are longitudinally pleated. Commonly referred to as Hardy Ground Orchid, Bletilla striata prefers partial sun to light shade and moist to damp soil, where it may naturalize over time. A deciduous plant, Hardy Ground Orchid appreciates winter mulch in colder climates.
