Blanton's Black 1997

Captured from Barrel No. 172, this single barrel Blanton's was meticulously dumped on June 27, 1997, after maturing peacefully in Warehouse H on Rick No. 2. A true artifact of bourbon history, this 80-proof expression offers a surprisingly complex and elegant profile, a benchmark for single-barrel enthusiasts. Tasting Notes Nose: A delicate and inviting aroma opens with classic caramel and vanilla, intertwined with bright citrus zest and a hint of dried apricot. Underlying notes of toasted oak and a subtle whisper of floral perfume add complexity, showcasing its well-aged but gentle nature. Palate: The palate is remarkably smooth and light, a testament to its proof. Initial flavors of sweet honey and brown sugar lead into a refined interplay of orchard fruits – green apple and pear, with a slight nutty undertone. A gentle spice, reminiscent of cinnamon and nutmeg, emerges towards the mid-palate, balanced by a creamy texture. Finish: The finish is clean and lingering, a gentle fade of sweet vanilla and soft oak tannins. There's a subtle warmth that expands slowly, leaving a pleasant impression of balanced sweetness and a whisper of white pepper, inviting the next sip. About the Distillery Blanton's, originating from the Buffalo Trace Distillery, holds the distinction of being the first commercially sold single barrel bourbon in the world, a concept pioneered by Master Distiller Elmer T. Lee in 1984. Named after Colonel Albert B. Blanton, who started at the distillery in 1897 and eventually ran it for decades, the brand emphasizes meticulous single-barrel selection and traditional distillation methods.
