Blanton's Takara Gold Racing Set 2001

From a revered year, this 2001 Blanton's Gold Edition Single Barrel Bourbon (Barrel #515) captures the pinnacle of handcrafted distilling. Bottled at a robust 103 proof, it offers an exceptionally smooth and complex profile, boasting a sophisticated interplay of sweet caramel, baking spices, and dried fruits for an unforgettable sipping experience. Tasting Notes Nose: A sophisticated and complex array of aromas immediately greets the senses. Rich caramel and toasted vanilla are prominent, interwoven with warm baking spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. Deeper notes of dried dark fruits, particularly fig and raisin, emerge, alongside a subtle hint of worn leather and a faint whisper of orange peel zest, suggesting a nuanced interplay between wood and distillate. Palate: The palate is remarkably smooth and full-bodied, coating the mouth with a luxurious texture. Initial flavors of sweet butterscotch and toffee give way to a vibrant burst of apricot and peach, indicative of well-matured corn. The spice profile from the nose intensifies, presenting as a gentle pepperiness and clove, balanced by milk chocolate and marzipan. A delicate oak presence provides structure without overwhelming, contributing notes of roasted nuts and a whisper of tobacco. Finish: The finish is long, elegant, and exceptionally clean, lingering with warmth. Sweet caramel and vanilla persist, slowly fading into a comforting embrace of charred oak and a lingering spice, reminiscent of a subtle rye influence. A final, pleasing dryness encourages another sip, leaving behind a subtle sweetness and a memory of its intricate layers.
