Blackadder Raw Cask Strathmill 23-year 2013

Experience the extraordinary with this Blackadder Raw Cask Strathmill, a 23-year-old single malt matured in a refill sherry puncheon. Bottled at a robust 106.6 proof, it delivers unparalleled depth and complexity, showcasing the true essence of aged Speyside whisky. A rare and limited-edition masterpiece for the discerning connoisseur. Tasting Notes Nose: A sophisticated and complex nose immediately reveals the influence of its 23 years in a refill sherry puncheon. Dried fruits abound: figs, dates, and plump raisins, mingled with a subtle nuttiness, perhaps walnuts or toasted almonds. Underneath, a delicate floral perfume emerges, reminiscent of honeysuckle and old roses, intertwined with hints of polished antique wood, beeswax, and a whisper of dark chocolate. A faint, refreshing zest of orange peel brightens the otherwise rich and earthy aroma. Palate: The palate is a magnificent continuation of the nose, delivering a viscous and full-bodied experience. Initial notes of sweet dark fruits explode – more dried apricots, stewed plums, and a luxurious sweetness akin to dark honey or maple syrup. This sweetness is beautifully balanced by a gentle spiciness; black pepper, a hint of cinnamon, and a touch of ginger provide warmth without bite. The refill sherry influence is pronounced but not overwhelming, offering layers of old leather, tobacco leaf, and fine oak tannins that grip the palate pleasantly. A creamy nutty undertone, like marzipan or frangipane, develops mid-palate, leading into a subtle earthiness. Finish: The finish is exceptionally long, warm, and wonderfully satisfying. The dried fruit and sherry notes linger, joined by a delightful rancio character that speaks to its age. Oak continues its presence, evolving into a sweet, lingering spice with hints of dark cocoa and espresso. A delicate smokiness, akin to a dying embers in a fireplace, subtly plays in the background, leaving a lasting impression of rich complexity and elegant maturity. The 106.6 proof provides a gentle warmth throughout, never harsh, but rather enhancing the depth of flavor.
