They are ideal for making burr-free holes in aluminum, wood, copper, plastic, and sheet metal. The Black & White coated HSS M2 Step Drill Bits are suitable for heavy maintenance work and feature a dual color step system for easier viewing, a spiral double flute design that provides longer life and better chip removal and a self-centering split point to prevent wobbling. These drill bits are optimized for Portable (or Pillar) drilling machines usage and electric powered rotary drills. Step Drill Bits are the go-to solution for drilling clean, precise holes in metal up to 1/4" thick. Designed for thin materials like sheet metal, they drill and ream in one smooth motion = no bit changes required. Each step increases in diameter, allowing you to create multiple hole sizes with a single tool. The Amber & Black Titanium coating isn’t just for looks; it provides a cooler cut for extended bit life and makes each step clearly visible while drilling, so you always know exactly where you are in the process. These bits also feature a self-centering tip that minimizes walking and delivers faster, more controlled drilling. For best results bring the step bit to the workpiece keeping a 90 degree angle between the cutting surface and the cutting head. Using the tool at steeper angles (for example 45 degrees), could apply excess pressure on the head and snap the shank.
