Its deep black color and faceted sides give it a solid, architectural presence in any room. Quick facts Stone Black Tourmaline (Schorl) Composition Complex boron silicate mineral Hardness (Mohs) 7 – 7.5 Color Deep black, sometimes with fine striations Origin Mined worldwide, including Brazil and Africa Chakra Root chakra Traditionally used for Protection, grounding, energetic shielding Care / Water-safe Brief rinse only — avoid prolonged soaking or salt Meaning & history Black tourmaline has a long folk history among protective stones, prized for its dense, light-absorbing color. In crystal tradition it's a grounding stone, tied to the root chakra and the sense of feeling stable in one's own space. You'll find it in our black tourmaline collection and among other protection and grounding stones. The pyramid shape carries its own folklore — many believe the apex focuses energy upward, which is why pyramids are popular for desks and meditation spaces. For a taller, more directional piece, our black tourmaline tower carries the same intention. Either way, it's a grounded addition to a mindful home. How to use it Set the pyramid where you spend focused time — a desk, entryway table, or meditation corner are common choices. Some like to hold it briefly during a quiet moment to settle their thoughts. There's no single correct way to use it; treat it as a tactile, grounding object. Care & cleansing Black tourmaline is a durable stone (7–7.5 on the Mohs scale) and can tolerate brief contact with water, but it's best to avoid prolonged soaking and to keep salt away from polished surfaces, which can dull the finish over time. Wipe with a soft, dry cloth to keep it dust-free. Many people also cleanse their crystals with methods like moonlight, sound, or smoke rather than water — use whatever feels right to you. Frequently asked questions What is a black tourmaline pyramid? It's a natural black tourmaline crystal, polished and shaped into a pyramid form. It's a decorative and symbolic piece, not a health product or medical device, and it isn't intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any condition. What chakra is black tourmaline associated with? In crystal tradition, black tourmaline is connected to the root chakra, which is associated with grounding, stability, and a sense of safety. Can I get my black tourmaline pyramid wet? Yes, briefly — a quick rinse is fine, but avoid prolonged soaking and keep it away from salt, which can affect the polished surface over time. Dry it right after. How should I cleanse or reset my black tourmaline? Common methods include moonlight, sound (like a singing bowl), or smoke cleansing. A brief rinse and thorough drying works too, but avoid extended water exposure. Will my pyramid look exactly like the photo? Not exactly. Because black tourmaline is a natural mineral, the finish, faceting, and exact proportions vary slightly from piece to piece, so yours will be one of a kind. Where should I place a black tourmaline pyramid? Popular spots include a desk, entryway, or meditation space. Many people also like pairing it with a black tourmaline tower for a taller, more directional piece.
