Black Silk Apron

A black silk apron served a very specific and practical function in the daily work of needleworkers and seamstresses. The smooth, dark surface provided contrast, helping threads, needles, and small pieces of work remain visible rather than blending into lighter fabrics. Made of black silk taffeta, this apron features a standard-sized bib with ties. The bib is designed to pin neatly to the front of the wearer’s gown, allowing it to stay securely in place while sewing. Both functional and period-appropriate, this apron reflects a thoughtful solution to the everyday needs of 18th-century sewing. Ideal for use in historical settings or for those engaged in handwork, it offers a simple and effective addition to a working wardrobe.
