Black Rainbow Quartz Bracelet

The crystals that were singing for us this week were coated in a dark mineral coating—and it’s from that deep shade that the rainbows appeared. Interestingly, against a dark backdrop, these colors become even more vivid—sometimes easier to see than in clear quartz. How do rainbows form in the dark—like in these hematite coated crystals? As sunlight bounces off spindle-shaped hematite nano-crystals, the waves of light reflect and overlap revealing a rainbow of vivid colour, which is displayed so vividly against the deep tone of the hematite. This harmony of crystal form and light creates a natural prism.
